Dear Parents and Guardians:

The district received a report through Safe2Tell on Thursday evening indicating that a student may have been in possession of a weapon on or near the MCHS campus. The police have been notified, have followed up, and along with M-CHS administration have determined that they do not believe there is any danger to our schools or students at this time.

From time to time, the district may receive a report of potential safety concerns from community members.  All of these reports are taken seriously and referred to the police and they follow up on it.  In most cases it is ultimately determined there is no threat. In the event that a concern is deemed to be a credible threat by the police, additional safety measures would be taken and parents would be notified.  In cases where the police notify us that they do not believe there is a credible threat, we proceed as usual with our school day but ask that our schools have a heightened awareness. We want to assure you that at all our schools, student safety is a top priority and we are always taking proactive measures to ensure safety.

All of our schools are “lockout, single point entry” facilities, which means that no one can enter the building without being admitted by school personnel.  Throughout the district, staff and administrators are paying attention to what’s happening in other schools, and we are continually evaluating and refining safety protocols.

As a reminder, students can report any concerns they have about bullying, weapons, suicide or other threats anonymously to the 24-hour hotline, Safe2Tell Colorado, by calling 1-877-542-7233 or logging on to safe2tellco.org. Reports to Safe2Tell are forwarded immediately to local law enforcement and RE-1 administrators.   If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jason Wayman
