Our HOSA Club has won $500.00 for 2nd place this year for the Teens in the Drivers Seat Contest!

It’s a great day to be alive and be a Panther ~ Drive safe everyday and especially during Prom Week!

NEW NEWS:

 

Mr. Robinson reports that our track team had an awesome weekend at the IML meet.  Arielle Wright - 1st in the 100, 200, 400; Jason Engle - 1st in the 100, Morgan Short - 1st in the long jump, Titus Jackson - 3rd in the 110 hurdles, 2nd in the 300 hurdles, 3rd in the high jump; Cordel Baer - 3rd in triple jump and many others placed in the relays and just outside of podium spots.

 

The AISES club received a $5,000 grant for computer programming. The club received 12 Sphero robots (like BB-8 from the latest Start Wars movies) and tablets to do the programming from the National AISES group.

 

The Class of 2019 is hosting one of the funnest Prom Week's yet with dress up days and prizes to Tremble Hot Springs. This weekend Grand March will start at 8 PM, the Dance will be from 9 AM - 12 PM and then Afterprom will go until 3:00 AM. The theme this year is Mystical Forest. We feel well represented by our Prom Royalty candidates: Trystan Henderson, Maddison Phelps, Josie Sitton, Jazmin Rodriguez, Chase Carver, Jasen Engel, Kade Partington & Kyle Talley!

 

The ladies soccer team has everyone excited for Friday when we get to find out "Who will get to Kiss the Pig"....Mr. Chandler, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Wisenbaker, or Dr. Wayman! Donations to the soccer program are coming in.....we think Dr. Wayman is going to be kissing a pig!

 

Our new recycling plan with the City of Cortez is up and running. Many thanks to Waste Management for their years of support toward recycling at the high school!

 

Plans are set for Wed. May 2nd at 10:30 AM for a Tree Planting in memory of Raymond Harriman. The tree was donated by the Four Corners Child Advocacy Center in honor or Ray's efforts in our community. Please join us!

 

The Library will be closed all day Wednesday, April 18, and Periods 1 through 4 on Thursday, April 19, during the Honors Diploma presentations. If students need to print assignments they may do so during lunch.

All promposals need to be emailed to: mchspromposal@gmail.com   entries will be accepted for review until midnight of April 19th. The winning promposal will be announced Friday morning April 20th. The winner will receive 2 tickets to Prom which also includes entrance into After Prom.

 

Attention Juniors:  A representative for the Daniels Scholarship will provide a presentation about the scholarship in the M-CHS library on Friday, April 20th at 11:30 a.m.   The Daniels Scholarship Program provides a four-year annually-renewable college scholarship for graduating high school seniors in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming who demonstrate exceptional character, leadership, and a commitment to serving their communities. Attention students:  If you plan on taking ANY concurrent enrollment college courses through M-CHS next  year, you will need to take the ACCUPLACER test if you have not already done so. This includes courses through Pueblo Community College, Southwest Colorado Community College, San Juan College, and Fort Lewis College.  The scheduled dates for these tests are the following Wednesdays after school: 4/18 and 4/25 at 3:20 in the computer lab in room 2108. Please sign up in the counseling office so that we can assure that there are enough computers.  Thank you!

Have your child ask his or her high school counselor about our concurrent enrollment options. Through Pueblo Community College Southwest, students can take a variety of career and technical classes, as well as college-level classes that are guaranteed to transfer to any Colorado university. Career and technical classes include Cosmetology, Automotive Service Technology, Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy and Welding. The Cortez Elks lodge annually awards four $1000.00 non-renewable local scholarships to deserving high school seniors.  To be considered, applicants must be graduating seniors from Montezuma-Cortez High School. The four awards are designated as the following:

1.       Most Valuable Male Scholarship

2.       Most Valuable Female Scholarship

3.       Legacy Scholarship (Son, Daughter, Grandson or Granddaughter of a local Elk member)

4.       Community College/Vocational Technical School Scholarship

Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline for submission of application is April 27th.
